Vik Muniz nasceu em São Paulo, Brasil. Vive e trabalha em Nova York e Rio de Janeiro.
A obra de Vik Muniz questiona e leva ao limite a representação. Apropriando-se de matérias primas como algodão, açucar, chocolate, lixo, dentre muitas outras, o artista recompõe por meio de um processo meticuloso, imagens icônicas, dando a elas novos e inúmeros significados. O resultado final, a fotografia, coloca em tensão matéria e representação. Teve exposições individuais no P.S.1 MoMA, the Museum of Contemporary Art em San Diego, Museu de Arte de São Paulo, Seattle Art Museum, Miami Art Museum, Museu de Arte Rio de Janeiro, Whitney Museum of American Art, International Center of Photography, Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art, entre outros.
Vik foi o artista convidado da 49ª Bienal de Veneza, da 2000 Biennial Exhibition no Museu Whitney de Arte Americana, da XXIV Bienal Internacional de São Paulo e da 46ª Exposição Bienal Media/Metaphor, na Corcoran Gallery of Art em Washington, EUA. Um catalogue raisonne da obra completa de Vik (1987 a 2009) foi publicado pela Ed.Capivara, do Rio de Janeiro, em dezembro de 2009. Outras publicações importantes sobre a obra de Vik são Reflex: Vik Muniz de A a Z, versão em português publicada pela Cosac Naify, SP, Brasil em 2007 e Reflex: A Vik Muniz Primer (versão original em inglês) pela Aperture, de Nova York, em 2005; Obra Incompleta, publicado pela Fundação Biblioteca Nacional, do Brasil, em 2004; e Vik Muniz, Natura Pictrix: Essays and Interviews on Photography, pela Edgewise Press (Nova York, Turim, Paris), em 2004.

Vik Muniz was born in São Paulo, Brazil. He lives and works in New York and Rio de Janeiro.
The works of Vik Muniz question the limits of representation. Appropriating materials such as cotton, sugar, chocolate, garbage, among many other things, the artist recombines, through a meticulous working method, iconic images and gives the latter, new and innumerous meanings. The final result, the photograph, puts into tension material and representation. The works of Vik Muniz have been exhibited in renowned museums and galleries worldwide. He has had solo shows in P.S.1 MoMA, the Museum of Contemporary Art in San Diego, Museum of Art São Paulo, Seattle Art Museum, Miami Art Museum, Museum of Art Rio de Janeiro, Whitney Museum of American Art, International Center of Photography, Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art, among others.
Vik was a guest artist at the 49th Venice Biennial, the 2000 Biennial Exhibition at the Whitney Museum of American Art, the XXIV Bienal Internacional de São Paulo and the 46th Corcoran Biennial Exhibition, Media/Metaphor at The Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. A catalogue raisonne of Vik's entire oeuvre (1987 to 2009) was published by Capivara Ed., Rio de Janeiro in December 2009.
